On June 6, 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed a new executive order to update and strengthen the nation’s approach to cybersecurity. With the cybersecurity landscape rapidly evolving, this order focuses on protecting the nation from foreign cyber threats and enhancing secure technology practices.

The order includes several key changes:

  • Encouraging the use of secure technology:
    • Supporting secure software development, the latest encryption protocols, and quantum-resistant cryptography.
  • Enhancing threat identification and response:
    • Shifting the focus of artificial intelligence towards identifying vulnerabilities rather than censorship and concentrating on border gateway security to defeat hijacking of network interconnections.
  •  Making a commitment to keep cybersecurity first:
    • Stripping away inappropriate measures outside of a focus on cybersecurity and ensuring technical measures are in place to promulgate cybersecurity policy.
