Considering Voltage-Sensitive Crypto Load Reductions

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) recently published an incident review examining the risks and challenges posed by the increasing integration of voltage-sensitive large loads. This report points out instances in the Texas Interconnection where crypto-currency facilities reduced their output significantly in response to transmission faults at a time when grid operators expected them to stay fully connected. It highlights causes and effects of these occurrences, and also summarizes the disturbances, provides technical observations, and offers seven considerations for additional analysis, equipment adjustments, and operational improvements.
