Power system vulnerability refers to the susceptibility of a power system to potential harm, affecting the extent to which community members and their assets are exposed to power outages. Recent studies have increasingly emphasized the significance of assessing power system vulnerability to mitigate social suffering and formulate policies for promoting power infrastructure resilience, particularly by examining the extent of power outages. Researchers from the Urban Resilience Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab at Texas A&M University used machine learning to create a nationwide Power System Vulnerability Index (PSVI) that identifies areas at increased risk of power outages. Dr. Ali Mostafavi from Texas A&M will discuss the project and its findings.
